Remembering Old Friends
Losing a loved one is always devastating. Losing an animal is no different. We endeavor to provide long happy lives for our residents and when it is their time to pass on, give them respectful burial in our cemetery.
In the most peaceful and contemplative part of our property, an area we call “The Sanctuary,” they rest under the shade of an ancient tree.
Rose (2020)
Rose arrived to us in the summer of 2020 with her sister Dot. She was gentle and beautiful and instantly became the favorite chicken for all our visitors, especially kids (who often spooked the other chickens, but not Rose!). It’s to hard to lose any animal, but ones like Rose who we knew for so little time but developed such strong relationships with are the hardest.
Queenie (2020)
Queenie arrived in early 2020 with Lady and Earl. As the previous alpha goat the had a hard time adjusting to her new social status. But eventually she mellowed and became the favorite goat for all our visitors because of her adorable stature and infectious smile. She will be missed by many, especially her human friends!
Zorro (2020)
Zorro arrived in 2019 with his brother Cuzco already a senior (16!) he immediately showed us that they had every bit of their youthful energy. He broke out of pastures, he nibbled on garden plants, and he kept going to hang out with Dahlia and Rossie Cotton in the other pasture. That was the beginning of the big hoofer herd!
Mary, Kate, & Ashley (2020)
The original chicken flock who lived on the farm long before we did. They lived in the “Mini Cooper” chicken tractor, and through the rehabilitation of the old chicken run, and they welcomed Gwen, Louis, Park, Amy, and Tina into their flock before they were taken from us. They will always have a special place in our hearts. Especially Kate, who was such a fierce survivor.
Malala (2020)
Such a sweet donkey. We knew her only a week and a half before she tragically passed. She was with the cows and the alpacas initially, but seemed a little distant. When we instead moved her in with the goats she really started to flourish. She would follow them around and they would take turns eating each others food. We are heartbroken that our time with her was cut so short.
